Gary was born on December 7, 1949 in LaCrosse, Wisconsin to Raymond and Esther Schlicht. He graduated from University of Wisconsin LaCrosse in 1972 with a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry and a minor in Mathematics. During college, Gary met his future wife, Ellen Johnson. After many dates involving pools, squirrels and peanuts, the couple married on December 23, 1972. They moved to Gladstone, Missouri, and Gary began working for the government for the Environmental Protection Agency as a chemist. The couple had two children, Jennifer and Adam. His children remember him as a kind, gentle and patient father who encouraged them to pursue their goals. You could always find Gary in his yard; he enjoyed tending to his flowers and maintaining his meticulous lawn. He loved sports, playing them, cheering on his local teams, but most of all he enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren play sports. Gary was an active and dedicated member of the Rock of Ages Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod Church.
He is preceded in death by his parents Raymond and Esther Schlicht.
Gary is survived by his wife Ellen Schlicht, daughter Jennifer Schlicht, son Adam (Candice) Schlicht, grandchildren Carter and Georgia, sister Marlis (Willie) Urbanek, multiple nieces and nephews and his dog Jessie.
A Visitation for Gary will be held Thursday, August 24, 2023 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM. A Celebration of Life will occur Friday, August 25, 2023 at 10:00 AM with a Graveside Service to immediately to follow, all at White Chapel Funeral Home and Cemetery 6600 NE Antioch Road, Gladstone, Missouri 64119.
