George was born on May 16, 1939 in Kansas City, Kansas to Lawrence and Mary Douglas. He graduated from Rosedale High School in 1957. After high school, George joined the Marine Corp and served for 3 years. In 1959, George married Joyce Alexander of Kansas City, Missouri. In 1961, the couple welcomed their first child, Curt, and two years later, his brother, Scott, completed the family. George was a loving husband always wanted to spend time with the family.
George as a sheet metal worker with Sheet Metal Local #2 in Kansas City and worked for TWA/American Airlines Aviation Operations. George was always sharing his knowledge with anyone willing to learn. George encouraged his sons in whatever endeavor they undertook, be it baseball, football, motorcycling or Boy Scouts (both attaining the rank of Eagle Scout).
There are many in the community who were kept comfortable by George working on their furnaces, air conditioners or home remodeling projects. He loved working with his hands and building things. He was a great husband, father and friend.
George is preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Mary Douglas, brother Larry and sister Mary Anne, daughters-in-law, Julie Douglas and Yvonne Douglas. He is survived by his wife Joyce of Independence, Missouri, sister Laura Primm of Anniston, Alabama, sister and brother-in-law Anne and Steve Howell of Mission, Texas, son and daughter-in-law Curt and Tish Douglas of Lee’s Summit, Missouri. Son Scott Douglas of Kansas City, Missouri. Grandchildren David Douglas of Kansas City, Missouri, Marykate Douglas of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Ian Douglas of Kansas City, Missouri and Chandler Tennyson of Lee’s Summit, Missouri. Great grandchildren, Madison Douglas, Tabitha Douglas, Zephyr Douglas and Zeppelyn Douglas.
