Hugh Patrick “Pat” Kissinger Jr.

He was the son of Dorothy Beatrice Kissinger Henry and Hugh Patrick Kissinger and the proud stepson of Vincent Henry.

Born on February 6, 1937, after graduating from Wyandotte High School in 1955, Pat attended what was then called Kansas City University. In 1958 he joined and served four years in the United States Navy. He sailed around the world serving on three aircraft carriers, including the USS Shangri La, the USS Intrepid, and the USS Constellation. His field of service was nuclear weapons.

In January of 1963, he married Geraldine Pacitti of Monaca, Pennsylvania. His family’s favorite story is of how they met; he being from Kansas City, Kansas and she from Pennsylvania. They met in 1961 on board the USS Constellation commissioning service in Brooklyn Naval Yard in New York. She was on the arm of another sailor! They were married on January 26, 1963, and this past year celebrated 63 years of marriage. Pat spent 31 years employed by Bayer Chemical in Kansas City, Missouri before retiring in 1996.

Pat and Gerry were blessed with three beautiful children, son, Vince and partner Margaret Otto, daughter, Judy Defeo, and daughter Angela Bennett Shefveland and husband Matt. Seven grandchildren, Jacob Bennett, Amy Bennett, Kalee Shipman (Travis), Dominic DeFeo (Megan), Sammy Jo DeFeo, Zachary Shefveland, Madelyne Shefveland. Six great grandchildren, Emery Bennett, Brock Bennett, Amelia, Sutton, and Aniston Shipman and Frankie Jo DeFeo. All who lovingly called him Pappy.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, September 9 from 9:30 am - 11:30 am at Newcomer’s White Chapel Funeral Home, 6600 NE Antioch Rd, Gladstone, MO 64118. Mass will be held at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 900 NE Shady Lane Dr., Kansas City, MO 64118 from 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm, luncheon to follow.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Demetrios G. Maragos, MD, Pat’s cardiologist for 26 years of excellent heart healthcare.

In lieu of flowers, the family wishes donations be made to Kansas City Hospice & Palliative Care. They provided Pat with phenomenal care.
