He was born August 11, 1976 in Joplin, Missouri, to Don and Annetta Black, who preceded him in death. James attended school in Plattsburg, but later graduated from Christian Liberty Academy. Following high school he attended Missouri Western University. James retired from Vocational Services, Inc. in March 2016.
He was known for his love of music, books and movies. His collection was eclectic and his knowledge of pop culture was unmatched. James' other love was sports. He followed the Chiefs, Royals, and OU Sooners with enthusiasm.
James had Huntington's Disease and he never backed down from it. He showed great courage, grace, and most of all, incredible faith. Attending church as often as possible during his illness was a priority for James and his family at Vivion Road Church of Christ made that possible. James shared his HD story, stepped up for research and raised money to help find a cure. And through it all, he smiled.
Survivors include: his brothers and sister – Trevor, and wife, Becky, of Plattsburg, Mo.; Meshanne, of Plattsburg, Mo.; and Nick, and girlfriend Tasha, of Gladstone, Mo.; his nephews and niece – Clint, Kate, Alex and Beau; many aunts, uncles and cousins; and his numerous friends, including the Liberty HD Support Group.
Visitation will be 6-8 p.m., Thursday, April 5; Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Friday, April 6; both at D.W. Newcomer's White Chapel in Gladstone, Mo.
