Bill was born December 27, 1941 in Iberia, Mo. to Fern and Harry McGill. He spent his early childhood bouncing between Iberia and Eldon before moving to Springfield, Mo. at the age of 10. He graduated from Parkview High School in Springfield in 1959, received a Bachelors of Arts in Sociology from Culver-Stockton College in Canton, Mo in 1963 and Master's Degree in Education at Missouri State University in 1967. He was the first member of his extended family to receive a Master’s Degree.
Bill taught Social Studies and English for several years in Los Angeles, Calif, Junction City, Kan. and Raytown, Mo. In 1973, Bill started at Antioch Middle School in Gladstone, Mo as a guidance counselor and worked in that role for 26 years before retiring in 1999.
Bill met the love of his life, Sandy, in Kansas City. They were wed on October 1, 1977 and remained together for 44 years until his death.
Sports played an important role in Bill’s life. Like most boys in Missouri he grew up a St. Louis Cardinals fan but changed allegiances to the Kansas City Royals when he moved to that city. His truest fandom, however, belonged to the athletic teams of his Alma Mater, the Missouri State Bears and Lady Bears. Rarely did he miss attending, watching or listening to one of their games.
He is survived by his wife Sandy, his son Brian (Abby) McGill of Washington, DC, three daughters Kelly McGill Carroll (Chris), Rebecca McGill Morrison (R.J.) and Kathleen McGill, all of Kansas City and his six grandchildren: Tyce, Will, Lucas, Elijah, Anastasia and Bennett.
