Jay Richard Stock

Jay passed away in his home and has been reunited with his loving wife, Mary Ann, in heaven. He joins his parents, Jay Leonard and Opal May Stock as well as his siblings, Patricia Powers, Lawrence Stock, Kathryn Cardwell, Merle Stock and Marian Campbell in death. He is survived by his baby sister, Laura Jane Redford.

Jay enjoyed more than 67 years of marriage and partnership with Mary Ann and together they had 8 children, Cheryl Robertson, Stephen Stock, Curtis Stock, Georgianne Plumberg, Christopher Stock, Brenda Christie, Karen Reid and Richard Stock along with 19 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.

While born in Raytown, Missouri, Jay spent most of his life in Kansas City North. He graduated in 1950 from North Kansas City High School, where he met and fell head-over-heels for Mary Ann - the girl that "looked like Elizabeth Taylor and sang like an angel." During the Korean conflict, he served two years in the US Navy, teaching water survival skills. After his discharge, Jay attended and graduated from the University of Kansas. He was proud of his alma mater and utilized the KU Med Center for treatment for cancer as well as several heart surgeries. Always pragmatic, Jay chose to donate his body to science.

Jay loved his family immensely and so enjoyed the visits from his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, whether it was the holidays, family birthdays or just a quick visit. Christmases were joyful chaos, with 30+ people in his house to celebrate. Jay loved to do things with them all -canoe trips, water skiing, snow skiing, water balloon fights, Easter egg hunts. If it involved fun, Jay was all in. He often said and lived these two phrases - “I want to live, not just be alive” and “Life is good.”

If there was an organization that needed leadership, Jay stepped up. He was actively involved at St. James Catholic School, St. Raphael’s Catholic Church, with the Knights of Columbus, numerous Kansas City, North Kansas City and Gladstone City Committees and Northland Neighborhoods Committee. If Jay thought he could make an impact, he was on board.

As a team, Jay and Mary Ann spent countless hours helping local charities, moving food, household items and furniture where it was needed, touching many lives and making some dear friends along the way.

Please join the family for a Memorial Mass of Christian Burial at St. Gabriel's Catholic Church (4737 N Cleveland Ave. KC MO 64117 near Penguin Park) on Saturday March 11, 2023; the Stock Family will receive friends from 1030 - 11 AM followed by Mass at 11 AM. Please join the Family following Mass for a light lunch in the church hall downstairs.

***Per Jay's wishes, there will be a combined Celebration of Life for he and Mary Ann, whom we lost in November of 2021. Please join the family for food and memory sharing of Jay and Mary Ann at the Kansas City Church, (7700 Church Road, Kansas City, Missouri) on Saturday, May 27, 2023, from 12:30 - 3 PM.
