Our sweet Mom, Jeanette (Jan) J. Lynch (Salm), passed away unexpectedly and so very peacefully, Friday, July 31, 2020 at the age of 88. She was born on March 4, 1932, in Chilton, WI to George and Emma Salm, the youngest of six children. She graduated High School, attended Business School, and headed out into the world with a smile on her face. She met the love of her life in 1958 and what a love it was. John Lynch (Dad) knew she was his girl the minute he laid eyes on her. He swept her off her feet and eight short months later, married her and took her to Kansas City, MO where she lived up until her passing.
1960 started the decade of babies, diapers and everything pink as John and Jan had five baby girls within six years!! Debbie Lynch, twins Shelly Hovey (Don) and Sharon Marley (Jack), Diane Petty (Bob) and Sandy Ochampaugh (Jeff), all of which reside in Kansas City except that youngest one Sandy…she resides in Russell, KS.
Dad passed away at the young age of 54 in 1980, but the thumbprint and memories he left with his wife and girls will last a lifetime. Mom and Dad had a love for each other like no other, a bond that lasted through the years...vows that were never broken.
The role of parenting fell solely on her shoulders and she was a wonderful mom and role model. She taught us what faith is, the importance of family and friends, how to love unendingly and most of all, how to turn to God when times were a struggle and then thank Him when good was restored. She also corrected us when we were wrong, believed in us to make our own life decisions, gave us our wings to leave the nest and made us laugh too many times to count…oh, the laughter…our house was always filled with laughter!!
She reminded us 10,000 times to put our lipstick on, go to mass every Sunday and that falling asleep on the couch every evening was perfectly normal. She always had a smile on her face and room in her heart to add another kid to the family or friend at the dinner table. She freely gave love to all she met along the way…spreading sunshine and making our world one of the most beautiful places to be.
She loved her many grandchildren: Tyler, Allyson and Morgan Marley and Max Petty. Her bonus grandchildren Annette and Natalie Petty and Ellen, Audrey, Andrew and Allison Ochampaugh. And although her time was short with her great grandchildren, they were precious treasures to her as well. Morgan had a special friendship with her grandma and spent hours with her fixing her hair, putting on her makeup, chatting about life, telling funny stories and most of all, giggling. And Max, oh how he could make her laugh.
While our hearts are heavy and our tears fall, God has his perfect angel back home with Him. The heavens must be a glorious, beautiful place and it must have been spectacular when she went through those gates. And though our world is missing her sunny disposition, how blessed were we to have such a faithful soul in all our lives. Rest peacefully, our sweet, precious Mom…your job on earth was so well done.
Celebration of the Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 AM, Thursday, August 13, 2020 at St. Patrick's Parish of Kansas City, MO with limited attendance available. In our effort to keep all of us safe, the funeral will be live streamed. Our family wants you to know that your attendance is not a measure of your friendship and love, as we have all felt your presence in our hearts throughout this sorrowful time and witnessed how much you loved our Mom while she was with us here on earth. A private burial of Ashes will follow at Leavenworth National Cemetery where she will be lovingly placed together at last with our dad.
