He was born on October 17, 1932 in Kansas City, KS the son of Forrest and Catherine (Werner) Mitchell.
He was married to Georgann Cain on September 10, 1979. John "Jack" was previously married to Alice Rose Devine. They had eight children. He was a graduate of Glennon High School and attended Rockhurst University for two years. He was a member of the International Association of Heat and Frost Workers Local #27 for 50 years. He enjoyed bird watching, gardening, and spending time with many family and friends.
Survivors include wife of 41 years, Georgann Mitchell; brother, Robert J. "Bobbie" Mitchell; daughters, Mary Pat (Pete) McGuire, Denise Ann (Robert) Mitchell, Janet Marie (Justin) Soliz, Margaret Eileen Forck, Dolores Jean (Steve) Haith, and Courtney Colleen (Sami) Elkhatib; sons, Jack Mitchell, Jr., and Dave (Kelly) Mitchell; step children, Judy Popplewell, Rochelle Dalrymple, and Christine O’Brien; 38 grandchildren; 41 great grandchildren; 8 great great grandchildren, and many beloved nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Alice Elizabeth Mitchell; sister, Dolores M. Kern; and two brothers, Richard M. “Mike” Mitchell and William A. “Bill” Mitchell.
Dad left us on the Fourth of July, a favorite holiday of all the Mitchell family. We know he was happy to be reunited with Uncles Bill and Mike, Aunt Dolores and all of his heavenly family for a grand celebration.
The family request each individual to bring a helium filled balloon to participate in a balloon release immediately following the service.
