Joyce was born on May 10, 1951, in Paola, Kansas to Glenn and Opal Davey. She was the baby sister to Barbara, John, Rex, and Evonna. She graduated from Fontana High School in 1969.
After graduation, Joyce attended Fort Scott Community College and became a licensed cosmetologist. Joyce worked in Osawatomie doing hair, until she met the love of her life Jerry Burns of Kansas City, Missouri.
Jerry and Joyce married in April of 1972. They moved around the country and ended up calling Kansas City their home. Jerry and Joyce completed their family with their little baby girl Jackie.
Joyce was the loving stepmom of the late Jeff Doherty and Melissa Doherty who now resides in Great Bend, Kansas. Her grandson Zach resides in Texas with his wife Rebecca and two great grandchildren Ian and Gideon.
Jerry worked at a group home and Joyce was a stay-at-home mom but also did hair in the salon that Jerry made for her in their home. In February of 1993, Joyce lost the love of her life unexpectedly. She never re-married and raised Jackie on her own. She did the best job ever.
Sweet Joycie loved life and lit up every room she walked in. She was a Campfire leader, she did hair for many years, she was a special needs assistant for high schoolers, she was a caregiver, but for 25 years of her life she worked at Johnson Controls in customer service. Joyce was still working until she became sick and was hesitant to retire.
Joyce was the most excited when she was able to travel with family and friends. Oh, the places she longed to see. She loved sunflowers, strawberries, The Wizard of Oz, Converse tennis shoes, Tinkerbell, Disney, and trying out new restaurants. Her most loved thing however was spending time with her daughter Jackie. Watching movies, going to craft fairs, shopping, eating Mexican food. Any time was great if they were together. Their bond was like no other.
Joyce is survived by her daughter Jackie Burns, 40 of Kansas City, Hasan Wills, 44 of KC who was very much like a son to her. Nieces, nephews, lots of best friends, and family. She leaves behind her sweet pup Sailor and three grand puppies- Pirate, Jada and Bugi.
We will be lost without her, but we know she is not in pain and does not have to struggle or be alone anymore. She is at peace in Heaven with all those who have passed before her.
Until we meet again Mom, I WILL ALWAYS LOVE YOU.
A visitation will be held at White Chapel Funeral Home in Kansas City Missouri on Friday, 4/21/23 from 5-8pm. A funeral mass will be held at St. Charles Borromeo Parish in Gladstone, Missouri on Saturday 4/22/23 at 10am. Arrangements for burial will be held later.
