Judith I Eckert passed peacefully on July, 29, 2018 surrounded by loved ones. Judy was born June 23, 1947. She graduated from North Kansas City High School in 1965. Judy was a restaurant manager most her life. She was a single mother to her two daughters: Michelle & Melissa. She took pride in raising them to be strong, independent women. Judy retired in 2017 from Liberty Oaks Elementary where she was a lunch lady. A job she loved dearly. Judy loved old rock and roll and margaritas. She loved spending Friday nights eating & drinking with her siblings. She was always cracking jokes and laughing. Judy always knew the price of gas, the weather, the traffic, and the sports scores. She was an avid Chiefs and Royals fan: UNLESS they were losing.
Judy was preceded in death by her father Joe O’Banion, her mother Viola McLain, her sister Sharon Collins, and her brother Marty O’Banion.
She is survived by her daughters Michelle Goodner and husband John, Melissa Butler and husband Lynn. Six Grandchildren: Erika, Megan, Madi, Makenna, Macie, Mylie; and siblings Jim, Leslie, Bette, and Kathy along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Family will receive visitors on Saturday August 4th from 1 to 2 pm followed by a memorial service starting at 2 pm at White Chapel Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens. We welcome everyone to come celebrate and share memories.
The family would like to thank KU Medical, KU Cancer Center & The KU Cancer Research Center for their ongoing effort to keep our beloved mother, grandmother, and sibling alive. A special thanks to our oncologists Dr. Prakash Neupane and Dr. Joaquina Baranda for their personal and professional care throughout her journey.
