

Karen was born on March 29, 1940 in Chillicothe, Missouri to Clarence and Kathleen Pfaff, she graduated from Bishop Ward High School. Karen married the love of her life, Dan on September 17, 1960 in Kansas City, Kansas. The couple moved to North Kansas City in the early sixties. Over a period of six years they had five children. Her grown children remember her as selfless, calm, faithful, tough, energetic and joyful mother.
In her teen years, Karen took care of her siblings and dad while her mom and sister were in St. Louis for a year battling polio. She continued the caretaker role and helped her son, Bernie care for her husband who has Alzheimer’s. Karen always put her family first, she was devoted to her husband, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved family gatherings, playing cards and talking about old times. Karen enjoyed bowling, golfing, skiing with friends and family. She was very devoted to her Catholic faith and she always gave back more than she received.
She is preceded in death by her parents Clarence and Kathleen Pfaff, son Scott Tomc, and two son-in-laws Clay Adams and Bruce Lackey.
Karen is survived by her loving husband Dan; children Melanie (Kent), Bernie, Kevin (Elizabeth), Kimberlie and daughter-in-law, Lynnie; eleven grandchildren Michael (Taylor), Lanie (Noah), Sammy (Jordan), Alex (Maddie), Kyle (Lizzie), Jacob, Julia, Gena, Marianna, Luke and Kolbe; four great grandchildren Lola, Hayes, Lincoln and Halle; and not to forget their dog Sassie.
The Rosary is scheduled for 5:40 PM on Friday, August 18, 2023 with a Visitation from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Newcomer’s White Chapel Funeral Home, 6600 NE Antioch Road, Gladstone, Missouri 64119.
The Eulogy and Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:45 AM on Saturday, August 19, 2023 at St. Andrew’s the Apostle Church, 6415 NE Antioch Road Gladstone, Missouri 64119. Karen will then be taken across the street to White Chapel Cemetery for burial and graveside prayers. Immediately following, the family invites you to join them for a brunch at St. Andrew’s Parish Hall to celebrate Karen.
