Kathy was born on November 13, 1948, in Goessel, KS to Leroy & Ruth (Meyer) Vogts.
Kathy graduated from Canton High School in 1966 where she was Homecoming Queen and Valedictorian. After spending a dull summer doing data entry, Kathy soon realized a vocation that utilized her brain would be more fulfilling. Thus, she became the first member of her family to enroll in college. She attended St. John’s College and Concordia Teacher’s College. She was the first teacher from the Vogts family; fourteen more followed in her footsteps.
Kathy married Mike Manley in 1976 and gained his two boys as children of her heart. In the following years, they had two children, a son and daughter. When Kathy married Larry Werth in 1989, she gained another son of her heart. They enjoyed 19 wonderful years of marriage. After losing Larry, Kathy was blessed to meet Dennis Bredehoeft. They married in 2017. His three daughters and their families brought even more joy into her life.
Kathy’s love of education led her to teach first grade for 29 years. Additionally, she served 28 years as a librarian in Lutheran schools. Whether her students knew her as Miss Vogts, Mrs. Manley, Mrs. Werth, or Mrs. Bredehoeft, she had a profound influence on shaping many young lives.
Kathy’s life was full of adventure. She was a camp counselor, spent a summer on Long Island, attended the 1976 Montreal Olympics, explored French castles, twice visited historic Martin Luther German landmarks, explored Latvia, and toured Prague. She loved visiting with family, organizing meals, and coordinating game days.
Kathy had many hobbies. She played handbells for more than 30 years. Kathy enjoyed donating handmade items in benefit of Lutheran education. Her love of sewing started at a young age with sewing her own clothes. This led to her love of creating countless quilts, which she shared with her family and friends. Many people were blessed with the warmth of Kathy’s quilts.
