Kenneth (Kenny) Charles Lawrence, 74, Kansas City, MO, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on December 31st. He was preceded in death by his parents Jake and Alice Lawrence of Blockton, Iowa.
Kenny proudly served in the United States Navy and was a member of VS-22, a naval air squadron stationed at Quonset Point Rhode Island. He went to sea periodically on air-craft carriers USS Essex, USS Wasp and USS Randolph whose missions were Anti-Submarine Warfare. During one of these missions, his squadron recovered the capsule of Apollo astronauts. He met and married the love of his life, Anne, during his stint in the service. After his service, Kenny worked as a carman for Chicago North Western railroad and later worked for the Burlington Northern Santa Fe railroad until he retired. Kenny loved talking about his days working for the railroad.
Kenny enjoyed fishing, bowling and watching or attending sporting events. He regularly attended games for the KC Royals and the old Kansas City King’s with his wife and children. In addition, he attended sporting events and dance recitals for his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
He also enjoyed taking road trips with his wife, her sister & her husband around the country. They would have everyone laughing when they shared their escapades.
Kenny is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Anne Lawrence, daughter Kathleen Butler and her husband Todd Butler, son Bruce Lawrence and his wife Glendy Lawrence, and seven grandchildren, Jennifer (Eric) Monger, Lauren (Jason) Trautvetter, Drew (Lindsey) Butler, Rachel (Paul) Brungardt, Jack Lawrence, Lynsey Shannon, Joe Shannon, and 9 Great Grandchildren.
Relatives & Friends are invited to visitation on Sunday, January 10, 2020 at 1:00 pm, services will commence immediately following the visitation at 2:00 pm. Burial will be at the White Chapel Cemetery. Please be advised for those attending the visitation and burial, facial masks and social distancing will be required.
