Larry was preceded in death by his father, Rev. Omar Austin, mother, Dorothy Austin, and stepmother, Mary Austin, as well as sister in law, Rosemary Austin and niece, Patricia Lee Austin.
Larry is survived by his loving wife, Penny, and their two children, Kim Dawn and husband, Kevin Phillips; and Larry Eugene and wife, Kim Joy Austin.
Larry leaves behind his grandchildren: Kevin Randall (Kory), Laicee Racquelle (Kayla and Steven), Keary Eugene (Angel), Polo, DeEsta, Chloe and Hazel.
Other survivors are his siblings: Omar and wife Hazel; Bob and wife Ruthann; Steve and wife Lynn; Dorothy Ann, Timothy and wife, Karen; plus three step siblings, Carlos Ball, Charlotte Hoover and Sharon Hill.
Larry was born at home in, Illinois, on January 6, 1943. He grew up as a happy farm boy, fishing in “the crick” and hunting rabbits and squirrels. In high school, Kirksville, Mo. became home , where Larry graduated from Kirksville Bible School. While in high school, Larry excelled in sports, putting up hay for farmers and making life long friends.
Later, Larry married his college sweetheart from Kansas City College and Bible School, on Valentine’s Day in 1964. He enjoyed 55 years, 4 months and 1 week of happiness with this West Virginia love of his life.
Larry and Penny have blessed many lives as they served God faithfully alongside Pastor Charles Hayton and wife Carol at the Lighthouse Chapel. Larry’s delightful humor and charming smile will forever be imprinted in our hearts and his spiritual testimony will continue to challenge us to press forward. Larry has reached his heavenly home. We must press on.
Larry Austin will be greatly missed by his family and a host of friends. This saying expresses it well: “It’s so hard to forget someone who gave you so much to remember.” We will always love and remember this loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, who never met a stranger. HE IS HOME!!
