LaVeta was beloved wife to William L. (Bill) for 49 years, the loving and marvelous mother of Billy Wayne White (Lisa) of Miami, Florida; David Wesley White (Kelli) of Shawnee, Kansas; and Lisa Marie Waite (Ben) of Greeley, Colorado. She was the proud grandmother of eight grandchildren Corrie (Daniel), Jessa (Sara), Brooklyn (Riley), Tyler, Isabella, Rachel, Ryan (Skylar) and Zachary and three great grandchildren, West, Cedar and William. LaVeta is also survived by two sisters, Loucile Swan and Janice King, as well as by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
LaVeta was an amazingly buoyant, happy and loving person who was always thinking of others and serving people, especially the less fortunate. As a young woman after a mission tour to indigenous people in New Mexico she felt God’s call. Once married, she and husband Bill engaged the early adventure of life together moving to Arizona with only the money in their pockets and a dream they from God to serve as volunteer missionaries to the native tribes. They were even recognized as Tentmaker Missionaries of the Year!
While in Arizona son and daughter David and Lisa were born and enjoyed their early years growing up at Walnut Canyon National Monument exploring the Indian ruins. The family was also very involved on the Navajo and Hopi reservations. When LaVeta visited one of the Hopi mesas some 20 years later she was delighted to discover a friend was still using some of the Tupperware she provided for them!
They returned to North Kansas City to help Bill’s mother, Opal, after the death of her husband, Henry. There she became Office Manager of Convention Services at the KC Marriott, a position she proudly held for 12 years. She was most of all a devoted follower of Christ, using her musical gifts of singing and playing piano in worship, teaching, leading and hosting the many people in her Sunday School Department over the years and, being a champion of Operation Christmas Child, the opportunity she felt with all her heart to help under-resourced children around the world receive joy and practical supplies and a toy or two each Christmas. All that, and an amazing cook! Ask about her Navajo tacos!
