Lee Fortner

It is with great sadness the family of Veldron “Lee” Fortner announce his passing Saturday, August 17, 2024, at the age of 82 years old, surrounded by his family.

The funeral will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, August 23, 2024, at White Chapel Funeral Home, 6600 NE Antioch Road, Gladstone, Missouri, 64119. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at Mt. Washington Cemetery, 614 S. Brookside Ave, Independence, Missouri, 64053 at 1:30 PM.

Lee was born July 27, 1942, in Humansville, Missouri, and was one of three children to Veldron and Willa Dean Davidson/Fortner. Lee grew up in the Kansas City, Missouri area where he attended Central High School.

Lee was married to his best friend Inez “Inie” Fortner on February 24, 1984. They laughed together, traveled together and between them had six incredible human beings together.

Lee was employed at Deffenbaugh Industries for 20 years. He retired as manager of Johnny on the Spot. His favorite job site was the Arrowhead Stadium.

At one time, he had the most fun hunting with his sons and daughter-in-laws. He had went to Canada fishing every year until he just couldn’t go anymore. Lee enjoyed his family, friends, playing golf, slot machines and sitting in the garage with neighbors. He would never turn down a trip to Las Vegas. He never knew a stranger. His favorite buddy was his dog, Mister, which was always by his side.

To cherish his memory is his wife, Inez “Inie” Fortner; five sons, Rick (Georgia) Fortner of Rayville, Missouri; Scott (Teri) Fortner of Blythedale, Missouri, Brian (Kimith) Fortner of Lawson, Missouri, Ty Lundberg of Kansas City, Missouri, daughter, Amy Yeager of Fargo, North Dakota; his brother, Dewey (Ruth) Fortner of Kansas City, Missouri and Terry (Jackie) Fortner of Lee’s Summit, Missouri. Together they had 13 grandchildren, and over 25 great grandchildren and his beloved dog, Mister; many nieces and nephews that he couldn’t be prouder of.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his oldest son, Nick Fortner; his Aunt and Uncle Ruby and Wendell Evans.
