He was born on July 17, 1933 in Carthage, MO to Bud R. and Lena M. (Comstock) Hurlbert. He served in the U.S. Army from May 1953 to April 1955. He was married to Irene Ricci from February 11, 1956 to May 1975, together they had five children. Leonard married the love of his life, Wilma D Johnson on July 26, 1975 in Kansas City, MO, they have been married 44 years.
He worked at Certain Teed Corporation from 1955 until he retired in 1995. He was a member of Teamsters Local 41. After retirement, Leonard and Wilma spent their winters in Aransas Pass, TX camp ground. He enjoyed visiting and spending time with his friends. He loved camping, boating, fishing, gardening, playing BINGO, his golf cart, building bird houses, coffee, his guns, fixing things, his man cave, and most of all, spending time with his wife and dogs.
Survivors include his wife, Wilma D. Hurlbert; one son, Larry E. Hurlbert; four daughters, Carolyn S. Brown, Patricia M. Niemann, Donna J. Macaluso, Faye L. Alexander; step daughter, Teresa Kent; stepson, Brian Davolt; one brother, Milburn (Joe) Hurlbert; 18 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; five son in laws, Michael Brown, Michael Niemann, Joe Macaluso, Don Alexander, David Kent; two daughter in laws, Carolyn Hurlbert and Sarah Davolt; and his Yorkie, Gidget that he loved so much.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Bud R. and Lena M. Hurlbert; two sisters, Arminta Gutherie and Clystia Jean Clark; one brother, Carl Hurlbert; and three infant grandchildren.
