“What we once enjoyed and deeply loved we can never lose, For all that we love deeply becomes a part of us.” — Helen Keller
Lenden Kelley Morehouse, affectionately known as “Lindy,” was born on January 12, 1945, in Kansas City, Missouri, to William and Jenny Morehouse. He spent his formative years in Avila, Missouri, where his kind heart, quiet strength, and natural talents first began to shine.
Lindy proudly served his country in the United States Air Force from 1964 to 1968, where he worked on missile systems for the B-52 bombers. Upon completing his service, he returned home and embarked on what would become a remarkable career. He worked for Empire Electric in Bolivar, Missouri, and later earned his electrical engineering degree. Throughout his 35-year career, Lindy helped design power grids in numerous communities, leaving a lasting impact that lit up countless lives.
It was on a blind date that Lindy met the love of his life, Sheryl. They married on October 2, 1975, and together built a beautiful life filled with hard work, laughter, and unwavering devotion. He balanced his career with farming alongside Sheryl’s father and poured his talents into every project he touched. Whether building from scratch without a pattern or fixing what others deemed unfixable, Lindy could do it all.
He was a man of tradition, especially when it came to family. One of his greatest joys was starting and sustaining the cherished family tradition of making apple butter—a labor of love that brought everyone together each year. In 2024, the family joyfully marked the 26th year of this beloved tradition.
Lindy’s love for his family was boundless. He was endlessly proud of his daughters, Laurie Ball and Renee Jones, and admired the wonderful spouses they chose in Jeff and Sam. His grandchildren—Brandon (spouse Colleen), Ashlyn, Greyson, Peyton, and his great-grandchildren, affectionately called “the littles”, Colter and Haven—were the lights of his life. Nothing brought him more joy than cheering them on from the sidelines of football games, basketball courts, soccer fields, baseball diamonds, and cross country meets and watching them flourish.
He was a devoted husband, an extraordinary father, a proud "Papa" and a loyal friend. Lindy’s legacy is not only found in the infrastructure he helped build, but in the deep, enduring love he gave to his family and the example he set for living with purpose, humility, and heart.
His absence leaves a profound hole in the lives of those who knew and loved him. He will be missed in every way imaginable—but his spirit will forever be felt in the traditions he started, the lessons he taught, and the love he gave so freely.
