Marjorie A. (Marge) Kelly, age 91, formerly of Atchison, Kansas, passed away on Saturday, April 13, 2024, in Kansas City, Missouri. Marge was born January 15, 1933 in Atchison, Kansas, the daughter of William and Elizabeth (Frommer) Nass. She graduated with a degree in Music from Mount Saint Scholastica College in Atchison.
Marge and Charles (Charlie) Kelly were married at St. Benedict’s Church in Atchison on October 22, 1955 and continued to live in Atchison. Together, they raised four children: Pat, Tim, Chris and Kathleen. Marge and Charlie moved to Rochester Hills, Michigan in 1977 in connection with Charlie’s job. In 1992, they retired to the Highlands Lakes Community in Palm Harbor, Florida. Charlie passed away on December 21, 2004. Until recently, Marge continued to live independently in her home in Florida.
Over her lifetime, Marge served as the organist and pipe organist for various church choirs. She also was a piano teacher and sought-after organist/pianist for weddings, funerals and other events. Marge and a group of friends were depicted in an artist’s rendering on the cover of the June 4, 1949 Saturday Evening Post.
Marge was an avid golfer, including participating in the women’s league at Highland Lakes and scoring several holes-in-one. She was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching and talking about sports, including the Tampa Bay Rays and Bucs. She was a season ticket holder to the Detroit Lions when she lived in Michigan.
Other past times included Bridge and Mahjong groups. Marge was also a longtime member of the philanthropic organization, P.E.O. Sisterhood, which promotes and supports educational opportunities for women.
Marge is survived by her four children, sons Pat (wife Connie) of Soldiers Grove, WI, Tim (wife Connie) of Angel Fire, NM, Chris of Olathe, KS and daughter Kathleen Crenshaw (husband Tim) of Kansas City, MO. She is also survived by her sister, Joan Dixon; five grandchildren: Brian Kelly (Angela), Paul Kelly, Kyleen Kelly, Erin Kelly, Zach Crenshaw (Sidney); and, five great grandchildren: Sierra Kelly, Rainier Kelly, Quorra Kelly, Ryanne Kelly and William Crenshaw.
A celebration of Marge’s life will take place at a later date.
