Martha was born in Davis County, Iowa, to Hubert and Inez Wilcox, the third child of what would be a family of 10 children. Her father was a carpenter and stonemason, and her mother was busy raising their family. Martha attended high school in Pulaski Iowa and was a cheerleader for the school’s basketball team. After high school, she married and began her family. She eventually moved to Kansas City, Missouri, and began her career working at North Kansas City Hospital. She was a radiology transcriptionist and worked her way up to office supervisor. She went back to school and graduated from Maple Woods College with an Associates' degree in Medical Transcription. After 28 years of dedicated service, she retired from North Kansas City Hospital.
Martha enjoyed many things in retirement. Her love of gardening brought her great joy. She grew beautiful plants and flowers while living in Anacortes, Washington. She also participated in senior activities such as Prime Timers, traveling with her friends to various scenic locations, and activities. She also volunteered at the local hospital and the chamber of commerce.
Martha was a beloved member of a knitting group after moving to North Carolina. She lovingly made items such as prayer shawls which were donated to local hospitals. Her group, “Knitters of Love,” also made baby hats and dishcloths to send to underdeveloped countries around the world.
What Martha loved most was serving her Lord and Savior. She attended Kansas City Baptist Temple for many years and most recently Bay Leaf Baptist Church in Raleigh, North Carolina. She always enjoyed singing in the choir, attending Sunday School, and many Bible studies. She truly loved studying the word of God!!
Martha is preceded death by her parents, 8 of her siblings, her daughter, Carol Williams, and her son-in-law, Thomas King. She is survived by her daughters Dianne King of Kansas City, and Debbie (Mike) Raymer of Parker, Colorado, her brother Bill (Barb) Wilcox of Wisconsin, as well as 7 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, one great, great-grandchild, and many nieces and nephews.
Martha was loved by the many friends she made through the years. Her kindness, sweet spirit, and warm smile were evident to everyone she knew. Her family will miss her the most as she tenderly loved, cared for, and always prayed for each of us. She will be dearly missed, but we know with certainty that we will see her again!!!
Condolences for Dianne King or Debbie Raymer may be left on the website or sent to White Chapel Funeral Home 6600 NE Antioch Rd Gladstone, MO 64119.
