Martha Jo Obie

Martha Jo Obie, 70, of Kansas City, MO passed away October 27, 2026 at NorthCare Hospice House. A memorial service will be held at 1:00pm Saturday, October 31, 2026 at Newcomer’s White Chapel Funeral Home, 6600 NE Antioch Rd, Gladstone, MO 64119.

Martha was born January 11, 1956 in Kansas City, MO to Ed and Betty Wenski. She graduated from Oak Park High School in 1974 and attended Northwest Missouri State University on a gymnastics scholarship. After college, she worked at First Federal Savings and Loan becoming Branch Manager at the Platte Woods location. She met Gary Obie and they were later married in April of 1988. Martha would later work for Fiserv until 2013 when she retired.

Martha loved cheering and watching her local favorites, KU Basketball and Football, Kansas City Chiefs and the Kansas City Royals. She enjoyed gardening, flowers, and feeding the birds and any other critters that came around their house.

Gary and Martha enjoyed going to lunch together almost every day at their favorite spots, Rancho Grande Cantina, Al and Tim’s Bar & Grill, both in Parkville and their favorite spot, Stone Canyon Pizza in Gladstone where they made dear friends with the owners and employees that worked there.

Martha was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her loving husband, Gary Obie; sister, Mary McKay (Joe); stepdaughter, Gina Reiter (Steve); stepson, John Obie; grandchildren, Austin Reiter (Morganne), Cory Reiter (fiancé Cisaria Burch), Lauren Obie and Kendal Obie and nephews, Brian McKay (Diana) and Eric McKay (Kristy). Martha is also survived by their loving kitty, Sassy, who will miss her very much.
