Mary Periman, a cherished mother, grandmother, and centenarian, passed away having reached her lifelong goal of living to 100 years old—matching the remarkable age of her beloved mother, Lou. Born on November 15, 1925, in North Carolina to Edward Preston and Lula Murine (Crisp) Moore, Mary was an only child who grew into a woman of incredible resilience and warmth.
After dedicating her early years to her home, Mary entered the workforce with a fierce commitment to support her sons, James and Larry. she built a long and successful career at Commerce Bank, where she remained until her retirement. A woman of faith, Mary was a long-time member of Nebo Baptist Church in Liberty and later enjoyed the community at Vineyard Church.
In 1988, Mary and her mother, Lou (affectionately known as "Paw Paw"), became roommates at Normandy Court. The two were inseparable, traveling the world with Seairland Tours—with Hawaii being their favorite destination—and spending Tuesdays playing cards with friends.
Mary’s home was a place of legendary treats. She was famous for her apple salad and her "sugar coma" sweet tea. Grandkids remember her cold, de-seeded watermelon and the "candy drawer" she kept stocked (mostly for herself!). She had a passion for picking fresh fruit and an even greater passion for her favorite colors: blue and purple. Her iconic "Purple Room," complete with lavender lace bedspreads, remains a vivid memory for everyone who visited.
Mary’s heart truly belonged to her grandchildren. Starting in 1989, she and Lou "retired" into full-time babysitting for Kyle and Preston. She was the grandmother who met you after school with a ham sandwich wrapped in foil and an Orange Crush or Mountain Dew. At Christmas, she was the "candy culprit" who delighted in handing out envelopes of cash—most notably the $100 bills that made her grandkids feel like they had won the lottery.
Mary spent her final decade at New Mark Care Facility, where she was a fixture at Bingo and never missed a musical performance. She is preceded in death by her husband, Bus Periman; her son, James Tremain; and her grandson, Matt Tremain.
She leaves behind a rich legacy in her son, Larry Ray Tremain (Sally), and daughter-in-law, Linda Tremain. Her memory will be cherished by her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as a wide circle of friends who will think of her fondly with every splash of lavender or taste of a perfectly sweet peach.
A visitation will be held at White Chapel Funeral Home, 6600 NE Antioch Rd, Gladstone, MO 64119, on March 19, 2026, from 12:30 pm to 1:30 pm, followed by a funeral service at the same location from 1:30 pm to 2:30 pm.
