Matthew “Matt” Eager, 29, of Raymore, MO, passed away peacefully on June 13, 2022. Matt was born on August 18, 1992 to Terry and Terri Eager. He graduated from Raymore Peculiar High School in 2011. At the age of 5, Matt was diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy which he battled with for the remainder of his life. He didn’t let his disease get him down or stop him from doing things and he never complained about his situation … only about his pillows not being right, his sock needed to be twisted, he was cold or he was hot, etc! Even though Matt had this disease, there wasn’t a day that went by that he didn’t have a smile on his face. His smile truly lit up the room!
In the summer Matt attended Muscular Dystrophy Camp (MDA) for many years where he met several of his lifelong friends who turned into family. When he became too old to attend MDA camp, he was able to attend Fuse Camp in Wichita with several of his friends which is another camp for young adults with MD. He also hung out with his friends almost monthly with his MD young adult support group!
Matt truly enjoyed visiting the South Metro Fire Station a block from his house. Matt and his friend Josh, who also had MD, would spend hours up there visiting, hanging out and listening to calls on their radios! They both became honorary firemen with the South Metro Fire Department which was truly one of Matt’s lifelong dreams!
Matt was an avid sports fan! He was a diehard KU fan, Chiefs fan, Royals fan, Sporting KC fan and loved attending his Alumni, Ray-Pec football games and getting high fives from the players! Sports was a big deal to him! He collected several bobble heads from Royals game and other memorabilia.
Matt also adored his two nieces Brooklynn and Madison! He loved giving them rides on his wheelchair but most of all he just enjoyed watching them grow up! The girls loved their Uncle Matt!
We hope that you always remember Matt with his infectious smile!
Matt is preceded in death by his mother, Terri Eager (Dec. 2014), and his grandparents Robert (Bob) and Dorothy Parker, and Glenn and Pauline Eager.
Matt is survived by his father, Terry Eager of Raymore, his sister, Sara (Roy) Smith of Oak Grove, and his two nieces Brooklynn and Madison Smith, many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
The family would like to thank Robin Sutton, his daily caregiver, for the many years of love and care that she gave Matt. She has truly become part of the family.
Matt would truly enjoy seeing everyone in their favorite sports gear, preferably KU, Chiefs or Royals but any team will do!
A visitation for Matt will be held Monday, June 20, 2022 from 12 to 2pm, funeral service will start at 2pm, followed by the burial all at White Chapel Funeral Home and Cemetery 6600 NE Antioch Rd, Gladstone, MO 64119. There will be a continued celebration of life from 5 to 7:30 on Monday June 20th at Centerview, 227 Municipal Cir. Raymore, MO 64083.
