Patrick Gordon Roughton passed away on June 13, 2026, at the age of 57. Born on August 9, 1968, he was the middle child of five; with two brothers and two sisters, raised in a close-knit family by his parents Wilma and Darrel.
Pat met Jennifer in 1988, while they were both slinging burgers at Hardee’s. They started dating a year later and true to Pat's style, they wasted absolutely no time getting married the second they learned DJ was on the way. The couple officially tied the knot on December 29, 1989. Jennifer always jokes that life with Pat was a wild adventure, she even went into labor with DJ during Pat's fire academy graduation ceremony. If there was ever a sign that their life together would be a chaotic, beautiful ride - that was it. Fifteen short months later, they welcomed their daughter Madi and the Roughton family was complete.
He was a simple man with a few great loves: family, firefighting and anything with wheels. Cars were his passion, Jeeping was an adventure and that Shelby Cobra was his dream car. He and Jennifer enjoyed putting on Northland Cars N Coffee every month for the past ten seasons and attending The Lake Garnett Grand Prix Revival.
Pat proudly served 32 years with the Kansas City Fire Department. Fittingly, he was hired on May 20, 1990, and retired as Captain of 38s on May 20, 2022. Being a firefighter wasn't just a job, it was part of who he was. As Jennifer often said, they became a fire family together. One of his greatest accomplishments was being awarded the Medal of Valor. In 2001, he started his own fiberglass repair company and approached it the same way he approached everything else: jump in, work hard and treat people fairly.
Of all his titles, "Papa" was his favorite. His granddaughters, Aubree and Rylee, brought him endless pride and joy. In fact, being closer to them played a big part in his decision to retire. He never needed much in life, but time with family was something he treasured.
Pat is survived by his loving wife Jennifer Roughton of Kansas City, Missouri; son DJ (Misha) Roughton of Kansas City, Missouri; daughter Madi (Felix) Rodriguez of Kansas City, Missouri; parents Wilma and Darrel Sisseck of Jasper, Missouri; cherished grandchildren Abree and Rylee. He also leaves behind siblings Annette (Mike) Sondgeroth of Tulsa, Oklahoma; John Roughton of Kansas City, Missouri; Robin Roughton of Jasper, Missouri; Andy (Yolanda) Roughton of Carthage, Missouri; many nieces, nephews; his KCFD brothers and sisters.
On Thursday, June 18, head down to White Chapel Funeral Home for an evening visitation from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. A Celebration of Life will be held the next morning Friday, June 19, at 10:00 AM. Right after Rev. Adam James concludes the ceremony, everyone is invited to stick around for a catered reception, all right there at White Chapel Funeral Home, 6600 NE Antioch Road, Gladstone, MO. The family hopes you can grab a plate, swap some good stories and some damn good laughs. Knowing Pat is to know he liked things simple, so leave the formal wear behind. Just be yourself and show up in your comfy clothes or your best "Pat's uniform" - his classic Carhartt shirt and cargo pants.
Pat lived simply, worked hard, fixed what was broken, loved his family fiercely and always tried to do what was fair. That's how he'll be remembered.
