Paul F. Westfall, 106, passed away on August 27, 2020 at Riverstone Retirement Community, surrounded by family members. Paul was born on July 23, 1914 in Cedar Rapids, IA the eldest of 4 children born to Roy and Flora (Hahn) Westfall. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Wilbur and James; and one sister Doris.
A devoted family man he was married for 67 years to Eloise E. Westfall who precedes him in death. He leaves behind 4 sons and their three spouses, Ronald C. of Kansas City, MO, Steven P. and Judy of Ocean Isle Beach, NC, Wayne R. and Pam of Kansas City, MO, and James M. and Debbie of Smithville, MO. He also leaves 8 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.
Paul spent most of his childhood in Omaha, NE where he graduated from high school and attended Creighton University. He graduated from Creighton with a BS in Chemistry in 1936 and with an MS in Chemistry in 1938. He joined the Cook Paint & Varnish Co. in 1938 where he worked as a Chemist and Research Director for 41 years, retiring in 1979. He was active in the Boy Scouts of America for 20 years while his sons where young. He was a member of the local School Board until it was consolidated with a larger district. He was a long time member of the American Chemical Society, past President and a 50 year member of the KC Paint & Coatings Association and a Member of the Scientific Committee of the National Paint & Coatings Association in Washington DC. Paul traveled extensively in foreign countries administering licenses for patents he and others obtained while doing research for the company. He served as a member of the Community Advisory Panel, for North Kansas City Hospital from its inception until he retired from the panel in 1990. His recreational interests were fishing and hunting, which he did often with his family.
Visitation will be Friday, September 4 starting at 1 pm, funeral will start at 2 pm and burial will follow immediately all at White Chapel Funeral Home and Cemetery. Please wear masks at all times
