She was born Peggy Lou Barton on April 5th, 1935 at home between Fargo and Gage, Oklahoma. She started elementary school in Mayhill, New Mexico, and graduated high school in Talequah, Oklahoma. Afterward, she started a 30-year career working for Southwestern Bell in Tulsa, Oklahoma, transferring to Kansas City, Missouri in the mid-1960s.
At the Grand Avenue Methodist Church in downtown Kansas City, she met George W. Krewson and the couple married in 1966. They were very active at Grand Avenue Temple UMC for over 50 years during which they were known for their philanthropic contributions and effort to help the many homeless that attended there. That generosity of spirit, along with an outspoken kindness and consideration, defined the way Peggy lived her life. As noted in a celebration for Peggy and George together, they were an inspiration to all who knew them and a shining example of God’s love.
She and George brightened so many lives over the years. For example, they made lifelong friends with Larry and Sharon DeWitt and John and Margaret Wimberley, and the three couples enjoyed game nights and dinners together, well into their retirement.
After George’s passing in 2014, Peggy enjoyed many social activities with friends in the senior complex she moved to in North Kansas City. She will be fondly remembered there too for her generous heart and fun spirit.
Peggy is preceded in death by her parents John and Bessie Barton, brother Glenn Barton, and her husband George.
She is survived by her sister Alma Farris Crouch of McAlester, Oklahoma; Barton side nieces and nephews: Joe and JoVeta Barton and James and Michelle Barton of Weatherford, Texas; Kathy Preston of Canadian, Oklahoma, Debra Barton Box of Santo, Texas, Delores and Michael Dauer of Lindale, Texas, and Virginia and Marty Davis of Eufaula, Oklahoma; and on the Krewson side, sister-in-law Arlene Krewson of New Sharon, Iowa as well as nieces and nephews: David Krewson of New Sharon, Iowa, Becky (and Jim) Webster of Kansas City, Missouri, Lyle Krewson of Polk City, Iowa, Darrell (and Susan) Krewson of Katy, Texas; Randy (and Deb) Krewson of Atkins, Iowa, Rhonda (and Steve) Bitterman of Independence, Iowa, and Nancy (and Todd) LiPetri of Port Saint Lucie, Florida. Peggy also had additional dear in-laws and great-nieces and nephews.
The Barton and Krewson sides of the family are fortunate to have many stories and warm memories of Peggy to share for decades to come. Peggy will never be forgotten, leaving friends and family feeling forever blessed to have known her.
A Memorial Service to honor the life of Peggy Krewson will be held at 1 p.m., on Friday, October 7, 2022, at Trinity United Methodist Church, 620 E Armour Blvd, Kansas City, MO. All are welcome.
