Born Phyllis Irene Jarvis in October 1936 in Gravesend, Kent, England to Albert Jarvis and Phyllis (Ive) Jarvis. Phyllis moved to the US in 1962 and in May of that year, married Norman Barrett in Kansas City, MO.
Phyllis was a devout Christian and is remembered for her unwavering faith, and her ability to bring joy to those around her. For many years she was an active member of Evangelistic Center Church in Kansas City where she and Norman served as deacons in the church and in many other roles. She particularly enjoyed working in the nursery as being around children brought her great joy.
Phyllis’ greatest joy in life was her family. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother Albert. She is survived by her husband Norman; brothers Dennis Jarvis, and Raymond Jarvis (Vicky) and her sister Ellen Gray; her 3 children, son Dean Barrett (Della), daughters Kelly Sloan, and Bronwyn Tree (Thomas); her 6 grandchildren, Kenneth Cox, William Chipman (Brea), Matthew Tree, Courtney Sloan (Devin Thompson), Jessica Sloan, and Christopher Tree; her great-grandchildren, Beyla, Scarlett, Kolton, Ruby, and Desmond, and her friend of over 60 years, Lesley Teetor (Tom), as well as many nieces and nephews who will all miss her dearly.
Phyllis enjoyed feeding the birds that gathered in her yard, as well as many stray animals that wandered into her yard. She also enjoyed watching tennis and having Bible studies with friends, often spending her free time knitting, decorating her home, and serving others in many different capacities.
Cremation was assisted by Newcomer’s White Chapel Funeral Home in Gladstone, MO. There will be no funeral, and no formal memorial service will be held per her wishes.
Phyllis's kind spirit and loving heart will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Her legacy of love and kindness will live on in the hearts of her family and friends.
Rest in peace, Phyllis Irene Barrett. You will forever be in our hearts.
