

With heavy hearts, we announce that Phyllis Dean, lovingly known as Granny Dean, passed away at the age of 90 on July 1, 2026. Phyllis leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness cherished by her two children, Betty Smith and Jess Guilliams; her stepdaughter, Sharon Engelhardt; and daughter-in-law, Cheryl Dean. She is also survived by eight grandchildren and many great-grandchildren, who brought her endless joy.
Phyllis’s faith was the foundation of her life. She drew strength and purpose from her relationship with God, and her daily actions and journaling reflected the deep convictions of her Christian beliefs. As a devoted member of Heartland Church of Christ, she lived out her faith by teaching ladies’ Bible classes, helping launch the Backsnack Program and the Grandmother’s Card Ministry, and offering heartfelt support to fellow members through regular visits and encouragement. Her steadfast faith inspired those around her, offering comfort and hope in times of need.
Phyllis devoted her life to serving others. Her generosity and compassion touched everyone she met. She was a longtime volunteer with the Assistance League of Kansas City and a Mizzou Master Gardener, often leading presentations to share her passion for gardening. Her selfless spirit and unwavering faith will be remembered by all who knew her, and her legacy of service and love will live on through her family and community.
Family and friends are all invited to attend and celebrate Phyllis's life on Friday, July 17, 2026, at White Chapel Funeral Home, 6600 NE Antioch Road, Gladstone, Missouri, 64119. THe day will begin with a visitation from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, followed immediately by the funeral ceremony at 2:00 PM, and concluding with the graveside burial.
