Ray was born on February 19, 1942 in North Kansas City and was raised here by his parents Bob and Mary Belle McCormick. After graduating from North Kansas City High School, Ray joined the United States Army in 1968 and served his country in the Vietnam War. He moved back to Kansas City and continued his education taking two years of business school. Ray began a long career in painting, which he enjoyed. He could paint everything: water towers, bridges, buildings and houses. But, his talents did not stop at painting, he was a jack of all trades and could fix or build anything with his hands. In the winter of 1995, Ray married Teresa.
Ray was a very generous individual who loved to help others; you could always find him at a neighbor’s house helping them with all sorts of projects. He was passionate about his country and his loving family.
He is preceded in death by his parents Bob and Mary Belle McCormick; great grandchildren Tyler James Keeley and Amanda Rae Sutton.
Ray is survived by his wife, Teresa Barber; brother Ron (Janie) Barber; sons Raymond Jr. (Julie) Barber, Devon Ray Barber and Tim (Edythe) Amos; daughters Patricia Murphy, Tracy (Christy) Williams and Angela West; ten grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and two great grandchildren on the way.
