Our beloved husband, father and grandfather, Raymond “Pete” Hollomon, 85, was welcomed home on May 12, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. The only child of Ray and Farrie Hollomon, Raymond was born at home, April 20th, 1941, in Lee’s Summit, Missouri. His father walked over a mile during a freak snow storm in order to guide the doctor’s buggy to their house.
In 1951, the family moved to Merced, California. It was here that Raymond deepened his love for hunting, fishing, guns, cars and the great outdoors. He was an excellent trumpet player, even receiving scholarship offers. Raymond graduated from Merced High School in 1959 and joined the United States Navy, where he served on the U.S.S. Isle Royale AD-29 from 1960-64. After his honorable discharge from the Navy, Raymond returned home to Lee’s Summit, Missouri.
In 1965, Raymond was united in marriage with Consuelo “Connie” Rodriguez. Their marriage of over 60 years welcomed three children. In 1967, Raymond started his new career at TWA, as an airplane mechanic and the family settled in the Northland area of Kansas City. Raymond retired from TWA/American Airlines after 38 years.
Raymond loved the outdoors. He loved to be in a deer stand pre-dawn watching the forest wake up, shivering and praying for the sun to bring its warmth. From spring turkey season to deer season, he could be found in nature. Duck and goose hunting were his passions. He also took an avid interest in his children’s sporting endeavors. He helped coach Little League Baseball, parochial grade school basketball and he led Cub Scout Webelos, as well. He had a love of gun shows, metal detecting, pawn shops, flea markets and garage sales. He loved the thrill of the chase.
Raymond was the kind of man who “talked the talk and walked the walk”. His word was his bond. While he was from the Silent Generation, he was not silent. You always knew where you stood with him, and he was the most loyal friend you could have. If he liked or loved you, he’d fight a grizzly for you.
Anyone who knew Raymond, would attest to his generous nature. Many tried and failed to grab the check before he did. His gift of relating to others made him someone you could always count on, and he never hesitated to help anyone in need. He volunteered with Harvesters, delivering food throughout the KC metro area, for many years. He appreciated and formed close bonds with many of his neighbors. Some of these bonds extended over 50 years, and he was a steady and loyal presence in their lives.
He is survived by his wife, Connie; son, Brian (Kelly) Hollomon; daughters, Christina Hollomon and Julie Hollomon; and grandchildren, Amanda (Jacob) Ellett, and Hunter Hollomon. Raymond was a parishioner of St. Gabriel the Archangel Catholic Parish.
Raymond will be remembered for the deep love he had for his family, friends and faith. His legacy lives on in the lives he touched, the memories he created, and the love he leaves behind. Ray will be forever missed by those who love him.
