Rex Allen Snodgrass, 87 passed away unexpectedly Sunday morning February 7th at Overland Park, KS Regional Hospital. He was born on April, 25th 1933 in Clarksburg, Mo., the son of the late Floyd Snodgrass and Eunice Vaughan Snodgrass.
Rex attended Clarksburg High School and enlisted in the U.S. Army shortly after leaving school in 1951. He was stationed for a while in Germany and spent time in Korea. He held the rank of Sergeant when he was Honorably Discharged in 1954.
After leaving the service Rex returned to California, Mo. where he married Judith Gainer in 1955 and raised a family. He worked for Heck's Saddlery on the town square and also for American Shoe in Jefferson City, Mo. many years. Rex also owned and operated Rex Men's Wear, a clothing store in California. During his time in California he was a member and deacon at the 1st Christian Church and a member of the Kiwanis Club. He enjoyed fishing, playing a little bit of golf, cards, catfish and fried chicken dinners. He liked chatting with the local folks he would meet on the street, at diners or at church socials and he liked playing catch with his kids.
After leaving California Rex moved to Kansas City, Mo. and married Evelyn Craig in 1979. He went on to work for the Jones Store during that time and was a member of the Metro Baptist Church.
Rex was preceded in death by his folks Floyd & Eunice Snodgrass, his sister Ramona Arlene McIntire, nephew Kenneth Birdsong and his wife Evelyn Snodgrass.
Rex is survived by his children Mike & Laurie Snodgrass and his step children, Lannie O'Kane, Debbie Clifford, Denise Spurlock, Tim Craig and step grandson Steve O'Kane along with many other step grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Visitation will be at 1:00 and the funeral at 2:00 Wednesday, February 17th, 2021 at McGilley Antioch Chapel, 3325 NE Vivion Rd, Kansas City, MO 64119. Burial with military honors will be at White Chapel Cemetery. The general public, up to 40 people, is welcome to attend services while following Covid-19 protocols and restrictions while in attendance.
