Bob was born on September 14, 1945, in San Francisco, CA to Earl T. and Dolores R. Johnston.
His life of service began as a young altar boy at St. Therese’s Little Flower Church in Kansas City and continued as an active member of St Elizabeth’s Church in Kansas City. Bob also received his Eagle Scout and graduated from Rockhurst High School (1962) and Rockhurst College (1967). He used his degree in becoming a lifelong accountant and tax preparer for over 50 years. During his professional career, he served as an active member and leadership role on the Kansas Public Accounting Association.
Bob married his wife, Marsha Stemmons, in 1967. During their 56 year marriage, the couple had one daughter, Christine, in whom they instilled faith, family and work values. Bob would support the parish school’s sports teams and coached his daughter’s softball team for several years.
Bob was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing in many charity tournaments with family and friends. He also loved the game of baseball; sitting at a major league game with a hot dog and beverage brought him great joy. He was a member in Knights of Columbus and served on various community organizations.
Bob is survived by his wife, Marsha Johnston of Gladstone, MO and daughter Christine Mautino (Jim) of Cedar Rapids, IA. Bob also leaves behind four grandchildren who were his pride and joy: Matt Mautino of Dayton, OH, Erin Mautino, Nick Mautino and Madison Mautino of Cedar Rapids, IA. In addition, Bob leaves behind his beloved sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Kathleen and Jerry Lightfoot of Oklahoma, and his nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father Earl T. Johnston, his mother Dolores R. (Kearney) Johnston, and his brother James E. Johnston all of the Kansas City area.
A visitation prayer service will be held from 1:30-3:30 on April 22nd at White Chapel Memorial Funeral Home in Gladstone, MO. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Bob’s life. In lieu of flowers, please have a Mass said for Bob at a Catholic Church of your choice, or make a donation to St. Elizabeth’s Church or St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church, or make a donation to Missouri Palliative and Hospice Care (3675 S.
