
Sara Rachel Hinshaw Thompson, 104, Kansas City, Missouri died Monday, June 29, 2015. She was born October 10, 1910 at Harveyville, Kansas, the daughter of Fred and Emma Hinshaw. She grew up in Harveyville and graduated from Harveyville High School. She taught school at Elmont Grade School. She attended the University of Kansas and studied English. Sara married Lloyd Thompson in May, 1936 at the Hinshaw home near Harveyville. She was preceded in death by her brothers: Dr. Alfred Hinshaw, William “Bill” Hinshaw, and Robert Hinshaw; and sisters Irva Beth Hinshaw, and Marge Hinshaw Walton, and nephew Dennis Hinshaw. She was member of PEO, Kansas City Athenaeum, Women’s Association for International Relations and Trade, Daughters of Rebekah, a volunteer on the North Kansas City Hospital Auxiliary, The American Red Cross and a Daughter of the American Revolution. Sara has enjoyed world traveling, reading, entertaining attending the Lyric Opera, Kansas City Symphony, Missouri Repertory Theatre, New Theatre bridge, Starlight Theatre, Nelson Atkins Museum and KU Basketball and Football. She loved to see the USA via car or flying to New York City for the theatre productions on Broadway. She treasured visits with family and friends. Sara’s love of the USA - she has been everywhere but nothing compares to her home state of Kansas. “It’s still the best” she admits with pride; and with good reason; all of her memories of growing up and knowing Lloyd were there. Survivors include: Sara Jennifer Wright, Kelly Walton, Doris Hinshaw, Rob Hinshaw, Willa Stoltz, Bruce Hinshaw. Richard Thompson, Janice Taylor, Beth Garbe, Carolyn Van Petten, Sara Jean Thompson, Mary Ann Strickland, James Thompson II. Joan Schieffer, Susan Troop, Michael Cousins, many Great/Great-Great Nieces and Nephews. The visitation will be held, from 6 to 8 PM, on Thursday, July 2, 2015, at White Chapel Memorial Gardens, 6600 NE Antioch Rd., Gladstone, MO, and a graveside service will be held, at Eskridge Cemetery, Eskridge, KS, at 11 AM, on Friday, July 3, 2015. Family suggests memorials to a donors choice.
