Shawn Matthew Hamilton, 56, of Claycomo, Missouri, passed away unexpectedly in his sleep on Saturday, October 17, 2026, leaving behind a lifetime of cherished memories, countless lives touched, and a family who loved him beyond measure. Born on October 4, 1970, in Kansas City, Missouri, Shawn was the youngest son of Howard and Karan (Staatz) Hamilton.
Shawn was a devoted husband, loving father, cherished brother, loyal friend, and a man whose generosity and willingness to help others knew no bounds. When Shawn walked into a room, it instantly became a little brighter. His infectious smile, unforgettable laughter, and playful sense of humor could lift anyone's spirits. He loved to joke, tease, and make people laugh, and his larger-than-life personality left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him.
But behind that humor was a man with an enormous heart. Shawn was fiercely protective of those he loved and would go to extraordinary lengths to make sure they were safe, happy, and cared for. He was the person everyone called when something broke, when life got difficult, or when they simply needed someone they could count on. Whether it was family, a lifelong friend, or a complete stranger, Shawn never hesitated to lend a hand. He didn't help others for recognition or praise. He helped because that was simply who he was.
For the past 15 years, Shawn was a dedicated employee of Kenton Brothers, Inc., where he served as a Senior Field Technician, Technical Trainer, and GSA Certified Technician. His knowledge, work ethic, and dedication to his profession reflected the pride he took in everything he did. Known for his remarkable ability to troubleshoot, improvise, and find a solution to just about any problem, Shawn earned the company's "MacGyver Award"—a fitting honor for a man who could fix just about anything. But perhaps one of his favorite claims to fame was winning the coveted "Clean Van Award" five years in a row! He took tremendous pride in those victories, and anyone who knew Shawn knew that keeping his van spotless wasn't just a habit—it was practically a competitive sport! His coworkers will undoubtedly remember his skill, dedication, humor, and the unmistakable pride he took in a job well done.
Scouting held a special place in Shawn's heart throughout his life. Beginning as a young Boy Scout, he carried the values of service, leadership, and helping others into adulthood. He later became a Scout leader, sharing his knowledge, experiences, and love of the outdoors with both of his sons. Shawn was also a member of the Tribe of Mic-O-Say, where he was known as "Little Yellow Otter" following his father’s Tribal name of “Yellow Otter”. Among his proudest Scouting accomplishments was receiving a Heroism Award for saving a man's life—an extraordinary act that spoke volumes about his courage, character, and instinct to help someone in need.
When he wasn't working or helping someone else, Shawn found happiness in life's simpler pleasures. He loved camping, fishing, hunting, gardening, cooking, and smoking meat. Some of his happiest moments were spent at the cabin on the family farm, surrounded by nature and the people he loved. Whether he was tending his garden, preparing a meal, or simply enjoying the peace and quiet of the outdoors, Shawn appreciated the things that truly mattered.
Shawn was a man of deep and unwavering faith. His love for God was not something he kept to himself, but something he openly shared and lived each day. He believed in the power of prayer, the importance of family, and the calling to serve others. One of the most treasured memories his family will carry is of Shawn leading prayers before family meals. More often than not, his voice would crack with emotion as he gave thanks for the blessings in his life, especially the people gathered around his table. Behind his strong exterior, quick wit, and infectious laughter was a tender heart filled with love, gratitude, and faith. Shawn didn't simply speak of his beliefs; he demonstrated them through his generosity, compassion, and willingness to help anyone in need. His faith was the foundation of the man he was and the legacy he leaves behind.
Above all else, Shawn was a family man. In 1995, he met the love of his life, Tammy. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, adventures, and memories that will forever be treasured. They would have celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary on February 9, 2027.
Shawn was Tammy's soulmate, best friend, protector, and partner in everything. He was her steady hand, her safe place, and the one person she could always count on. Their love was the kind that grows deeper with every passing year, built not only on the big moments but on the countless little ways he showed his love every single day.
His sons, Dalton and Zachary, were his pride and joy. Being their father was one of the greatest honors of his life. He taught them not only through his words but through his example—showing them the importance of hard work, honesty, kindness, loyalty, and always being there for the people you love. The lessons he shared and the memories they made together will remain a lasting part of his legacy.
Shawn is survived by his loving wife, Tammy Hamilton; his sons, Dalton Welch (Hamilton) and Zachary Hamilton (Natalie); and his brother, Chris Hamilton (Debbie), along with extended family members, friends, and countless others whose lives were made better simply by knowing him. He was preceded in death by his parents, Karan Hamilton and Howard Hamilton.
Shawn's greatest accomplishments were not measured by titles, possessions, or professional achievements, but by the family he loved, the people he helped, and the lives he touched. He was a man of unwavering devotion, fierce loyalty, endless generosity, and a heart that gave far more than it ever asked in return.
The world is a little quieter without his laughter and a little dimmer without his smile. But the love he gave, the lessons he taught, and the memories he created will continue to shine through all those who knew and loved him.
He spent his life taking care of everyone else. Now, safely in the arms of his Heavenly Father, may he rest in eternal peace, knowing how deeply he is loved and how profoundly he is missed. Until we meet again.
