Tara Hill, beloved wife, mother, daughter, sister, friend, and dedicated public servant, passed away on October 26, 2026, following a courageous battle with cancer. Surrounded by family and friends, Tara left behind a legacy of love, compassion, dedication, and service that touched countless lives throughout her 23-year career in emergency services.
Tara was born in Aurora, Colorado, to Dennis Blosser Sr. and Sherman Blosser. The oldest of three children, she grew up alongside her younger sister, Megan, and younger brother, Dennis Jr. When Tara was approximately 12 years old, her family moved to Kansas, where she continued her education and graduated from Shawnee Mission South High School in 1996.
Tara found her calling in public service and began pursuing that passion by earning her Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certificate from Metropolitan Community College in Independence, Missouri, in 2001. She continued her education at Penn Valley Community College, earning her paramedic license in 2003. In April of that year, she began her career as a Nationally Registered Paramedic with MAST Ambulance in Kansas City, Missouri. Following the merger of MAST Ambulance Service with the Kansas City Fire Department (KCFD) in April 2010, Tara continued serving the Kansas City community as a paramedic.
Throughout her career, Tara demonstrated a commitment to not only caring for patients but also supporting and developing those around her. In 2018, she became a Business Agent for the International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF) Local 42 while continuing her work with KCFD. In this role, she worked alongside numerous fire and emergency service departments throughout the Kansas City metropolitan area, advocating for and supporting the men and women who dedicated their lives to serving others. Although her time as a Business Agent with Local 42 eventually concluded, Tara remained an active member of the IAFF family and was a current member of IAFF Local 3808 at the time of her passing.
Her passion for education and improving emergency medical services led her to additional leadership roles within KCFD. In November 2022, she was promoted to Assistant Division Chief in the Education Division, where she helped train and prepare department members for the important work they do every day. In July 2025, she was promoted to Division Chief of the Quality Assurance and Improvement Division, where she worked to improve patient care and documentation through research, education, and training.
While Tara accomplished so much throughout her professional career, her greatest accomplishment and greatest source of happiness was her family. She met her husband, Geoff Hill, a Fire Apparatus Operator and Paramedic with the Belton Fire Department and an active member of IAFF Local 42, during her years in emergency services. They were married in September 2004 and together raised four beautiful daughters: Piper, 20; Emilia, 19; Lucy, 13; and Ivy, 9.
Tara was the definition of a devoted and proud sports mom. She lived for taking her daughters to soccer and softball practices, wrestling events, games, and tournaments. She was their biggest supporter and took immense pride in every accomplishment, whether on the playing field, in the classroom, or in life. Her daughters were her world, and she never missed an opportunity to show them how much she loved them.
When she wasn't working or cheering on her daughters, Tara enjoyed attending concerts with family and friends, gardening, relaxing in her pool, and spending time with animals, both wild and domestic. She also loved taking trips to Las Vegas and making memories with the people she loved.
Tara had a heart for helping others that extended well beyond her profession. She worked tirelessly to support her family, friends, coworkers, and even strangers who crossed her path as patients. Whether caring for someone during their most difficult moments, mentoring a fellow firefighter or paramedic, advocating for a coworker, or simply being there for someone who needed her, Tara made a difference. Her kindness, dedication, and willingness to give of herself were evident in everything she did.
Over 23 years of service to the City of Kansas City, Missouri, Tara touched countless lives. Her contributions to the Kansas City Fire Department, the emergency services community, and the IAFF will not be forgotten. Those who had the privilege of knowing and working alongside her will remember her dedication, her compassion, and the genuine care she had for the people around her.
