Thaddy Lou Layton (Jennings), also known as "Red" by many, was 89 years old when she passed away on July 29, 2022 peacefully with loved ones at her side. Thaddy was born on July 12, 1933 in Trenton, Missouri to Mina Murl (Sharp) Jennings and Theodore Roosevelt Jennings. She graduated from North Kansas City High School in 1952. Thaddy married John Layton on June 4, 1955. They had three sons; John Edward Layton, Ronald Wayne Layton, and Dennis Rae Layton. She worked for McPike Drug Company which later changed name to McKesson. She went on to work for Faultless Starch and retired from here. Thaddy and John also had a small family business, Layton Knives, and attended gun and knife shows most weekends accompanied by their sons and grandchildren.
Thaddy loved her family, pets, and enjoyed gathering with the family. She and John enjoyed NASCAR and had a collection of memorabilia. She enjoyed sewing throughout the years. Thaddy loved to show off her troll collection, which was greater than 3000 according to her. Many of her trolls were dressed in a variety of outfits that she made and displayed throughout the house with the majority being displayed in the basement.
The nursing staff of TMC Lakewood, her home of the past 4 1/2 years described her as small by mighty as well as witty. She often made the nursing staff laugh and she was entertained by them as well.
Those that survive Thaddy include two sons John Edward Layton (Josie), Dennis Rae Layton (Jackie); daughter-in-law Sheryl Layton (wife of Ron); six grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; a sister Thelma Chandler; a brother Virgil Jennings; and many nieces and nephews.
