

Virgil Ray Bourne, 67, of Gladstone, MO passed away suddenly on Sunday, February 21, 2016 due to an unexpected illness. Virgil was born August 31, 1948 in Winfield, KS to Voyd and Louise Bourne. He graduated from Burden High School in 1966 and received his nursing degree from Newman School of Nursing in Emporia, KS in 1971. He served in the Army Nursing Corps for three years including earthquake relief efforts in Managua, Nicaragua. Virgil then attended Emporia State University and earned his MBA in 1978. Virgil met Brenda Kay Curtis at Terre Haute Regional Hospital where he was working as surgery supervisor and she was head nurse of pediatrics. They wed December 9, 1978 in Terre Haute, IN. Virgil and Brenda eventually settled in Gladstone, MO with their two daughters Beth and Sarah. Virgil was preceded in death by his parents, Voyd and Louise. He is survived by his wife Brenda, daughters Beth (Michael) Wagner and Sarah (Andrew) Schneider, sisters Verlinda Randall and Nonie (Dean) Brookshier, grandchildren Xander, Kiara, Reagan and Henry. Virgil enjoyed fishing, cooking, playing bridge and board games. He will be remembered for his love of bringing the family together and spending time with his grandchildren. Services will be held Friday, February 26 at 4:00 pm at White Chapel Funeral Home with a visitation beginning at 2:00pm. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Shriner’s Children’s Hospital.
