Walter was born on August 24, 1939, in Kansas City, Missouri to Walter and Mildred Shafer. He was blessed in 1960 with a daughter Sherri, a son Kevin in 1961, and then a daughter Rebecca in 1963. Walter married Patty on May 2, 1978, and together raised their five children. Walter was an airline mechanic for TWA in Kansas City before moving to Chandler Arizona continuing his career with American Airlines before finally retiring. In 2019, he and Patty moved back to Kansas City to be near family.
He was preceded in death by his wife Patricia in October 2022, parents Walter and Mildred, brothers Michael and Steven, sisters Joyce, Sharon and Nina.
Walter is survived by his daughters Sherri Miller(Mike); Becky Wilson; son Kevin Shafer; step-daughter Tammy Romero(Ernesto) and step-son Scott Martinez(Angela). He also leaves behind grandchildren Daniel, Alicia, Curtis, Nathan and Jacob along with greatgrandchildren, Serena, Velicity, Chase, Alexis, Madison, Emily, Trinity and Johnathan. Walter leaves behind other family members as well as friends.
A visitation for Walter will be held Saturday, October 17, 2026 from 1-2pm with a loving remembrance at 2pm followed by a graveside service all at White Chapel Funeral Home and Cemetery, 6600 NE Antioch Road, Gladstone, Missouri.
