Bill was born on January 7, 1950, in Tipton, Missouri, to Ivan James and Arleen (Dick) Hofstetter. He grew up in Tipton and graduated from Tipton High School in 1968. He went on to earn his degree from Central Missouri State University in 1972.
On March 20, 1976, at St. Charles Catholic Church in Kansas City, Bill was united in marriage to Barbara Ann (Zeller). Together they built a loving home and raised two children, Brian and Sarah, who were his greatest source of pride.
Bill lived most of his life in Gladstone. He spent the majority of his career with Ceco Concrete Construction before retiring in 2010. His work contributed to many major projects, including the federal courthouse in Kansas City and the new Busch Stadium in St. Louis.
Bill became a runner later in life (thanks Gina) and completed numerous 5K races, a 10K, and even a half marathon. He found his greatest joy in time spent with his family, especially cheering on his grandchildren who called him Papa. He loved watching Alexa play soccer, Bryce play baseball, and Sadie dance.
He is survived by his loving wife, Barbara, of the home; his son, Brian (Gina) of Kansas City; his daughter, Sarah Kelsey (Marty) of Fairfax, Virginia; and three beloved grandchildren, Alexa Hofstetter, Bryce Kelsey, and Sadie Kelsey. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Connie Hofstetter of Tipton.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Don.
Serving as pallbearers for the services will be Brian Hofstetter, Marty Kelsey, Bryce Kelsey, Don Zeller, Adam Zeller, and Colby Long.
