Bill was born on October 28, 1960 in North Kansas City, MO to William George Spicer and Martha Ann (Witt) Spicer. In 1984, Bill married Shanda Sue (Stephens) Spicer – meeting his love at a college dance. Bill and Shanda are both proud of their son, Brett William Spicer, and being Papa Billy and Grandma Shanda to 4-year-old granddaughter Briella Ann is a lasting delight.
Bill graduated from Winnetonka High School in 1979 and Southwestern Community College in Creston, Iowa in 1981, and later attended Central Missouri State University. After college, he worked at Townsend Communications in the printing business for many years, and in recent years served as a Public Safety Officer with Metropolitan Community Colleges.
Sports was important in Bill’s life. He played all sports throughout school – and proudly excelled in Ban-Johnson Baseball. He then, played baseball at college level and was an active fan of the Royals, Chiefs, Missouri Tigers and NASCAR. He and Brett attended many sporting events together; Bill was a sports trivia wizard. And Bill loved to help with Brett’s baseball team while Brett was growing up. He also enjoyed the game of golf and playing his guitar, which he played by ear.
Bill attended St. Gabriel Catholic Church, where he also attended early elementary school. Bill was a family man and was always willing to help friends, family and neighbors with projects.
Bill was preceded in death by his father, William George Spicer; his mother-in-law, Shirley Sue Stephens; and the1995 passing of his nephew, John Tyler Wininger.
Bill is survived by his wife of 36 years, Shanda; his son Brett, of Bedford, IA and granddaughter Briella Ann; his mother, Martha of Lathrop, MO; father-in-law, Ivan Stephens of Clearfield, IA; brother, Mike Spicer of Lathrop, MO; sister-in-law, Sherry Wininger (John) of Smithville; brother-in-law, Jeff Stephens (Diane) of Kansas City; many nieces and nephews and a great-nephew.
