Mrs. Barbara E. Coates

Barbara Elsa Coates, 85, longtime resident of East Hartford passed away peacefully on Sunday, (August 8, 2010) at Rockville General Hospital. Barbara was born May 18, 1925 in St. Petersburg, FL, daughter of the late Harold Otis and A. Margaret (Edman)Hill. She was the widow of Norman Coates, who passed in Feb of 1987. Barbara loved to cook and was very active in community theater programs. She was known as an actor for the John Balmer Players. Her most notable performance was her portrayal of Emily Dickenson. Barbara was an outstanding person in every way, shape and form. She will be sadly missed by her many friends and family. May God Bless Her. She is survived by her two loving children Joan M. Coates of East Hartford and Richard N. Coates and his wife Cynthia A.: her two grandchildren Rebecca L. and Robert N. Coates all of Manchester: a brother Verne D. Hill of St. Petersburg, FL: and a special friend Robert Kowal of East Hartford: along with numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

A Celebration of Life with the Rev. Al Turner officiating will be on Thursday, Aug 12th 10 AM at the Glastonbury Funeral Home, 450 New London Tpke., Glastonbury. Burial will follow in Hillside Cemetery, East Hartford. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the CT Humane Society, 701 Russell Rd., Newington, CT 06111.
