

Duane Lewis Luster passed away at home on October 26, 2017. Duane was 84. Born September 19, 1933 in Putnam, CT, he was the son of Marion Hazel Pugh Luster and James Luster. Duane leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 54 years, Alice Warring Luster, son Lewis Warring Luster, his wife Tiona Maria Luster and their son, Lewis Warring Luster, Jr., his sister, Joan Luster, nieces, Stephanie Knipple and Claire Odoms, nephew Peter Olenick and a host of other relatives in CT, ME, FL and RI.
Duane completed his education at the UConn School of Pharmacy and worked in such pharmacies in the greater Hartford area as Maxwell Drug Store, Dougherty Drug Store, Woodland Drug Store and Ford-James Pharmacy, New England Distributing and RODCO. He was a dedicated member of the AZO Fraternity.
Duane was known for his marvelous sense of humor and willingness to help friends. He loved golf and socializing with his ‘golf buddies’ at The Portland CT Men’s Golf league. He was a volunteer for Hartford Area Habitat for Humanity where he was recognized as a Habitat for Humanity Volunteer Award in 2003, and a board member of Knox in Hartford, CT. He also participated in various roles during Glastonbury municipal and national elections. He was a wonderful and creative floral designer and was the first male National Garden Club Flower Show Judge in CT. He was a member of the Federated Garden Clubs of CT and The Country Gardeners of Glastonbury. He was a dedicated member of Asylum Hill Congregational Church where he served on and co-chaired such committees as the Welcoming Committee and the House Committee.
His Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, November 2, 2017 at 3:00pm at Asylum Hill Congregational Church, 814 Asylum Ave., Hartford, CT. There are no calling hours, burial is private and at the convenience of the family.
