

Eleanor Cross Flynn, age 93, of Glastonbury and formerly of West Hartford, died peacefully on June 16, 2013. She was born in East Orange, New Jersey on March 9, 1920, the daughter of the late Harold I. and Margery D. Cross. She was the widow of Frederick J. Flynn and John E. Cartland.
She graduated from Smith College and later in life received a Masters in Education at the University of Hartford. She taught school for many years in the West Hartford and Glastonbury school systems, and retired in 1977.
Eleanor was a long standing member of Saint Luke’s Episcopal Church where she taught Sunday school for several years. She enjoyed an active life in many clubs and organizations including The Town and County Club of Hartford where she once served as president. Her many interests included traveling, playing bridge, book group, study group, gardening, and watching sports, especially The New York Yankees. She also cherished her time with her extensive family.
She is survived by her children Polly Ellen Davies of Boston, MA; Frederick J. Flynn and his wife Marjory Flynn of Morristown, TN; Elizabeth Flynn Cooper of Glastonbury and Margery Flynn Rosenblatt and her husband, Mark Rosenblatt of Walpole, MA, as well as ten grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. She also leaves her step-children, Richard Cartland and his wife, Elaine of West Hartford and Carolyn Cartland of Bloomfield. She is predeceased by her step- sons, John E. Cartland and Charles E. Cartland.
A memorial service will be held at Saint Luke’s Episcopal Church, 915 Main Street, South Glastonbury, on Saturday June 22, 2013 at 1:00 PM.
