Paul Wadsworth Entress, age 101 died peacefully on October 17th, 2018 at the Salmon Brook Rehabilitation Center, where he spent the last few days of his life. Paul was born and raised in Hartford and West Hartford, CT, and graduated in 1935 from Hall High School. After working at Hartford Fire and Casualty Insurance as a young man, Paul was drafted into the US Army and was stationed in Okinawa just days before the Second World War ended.
Paul’s main occupation was in the field of radio broadcasting, where his roles included disc jockey, newscaster, program director, manager and salesman. Stations he worked for included WCOP, WKND, WWNH, and WBZ (Boston) where Paul hosted the radio show, “All Night with Paul Knight.” Paul also taught at the CT School of Broadcasting.
His radio career was followed by a career in sales and then as the Committee on Publication for the Christian Science Church. He was an active member of the Church for his entire life, and in his last days continued to read his Bible lessons faithfully and attend services in Glastonbury, where he was cherished.
As a young man, Paul acted in high school and community theater and he taught himself harmonica and piano. After retiring, Paul created a standup comedy routine and loved performing for local facilities and groups. He also renewed his membership with the Masons, serving as Worshipful Grand Master in the Wyllis-St. John’s Lodge and earning his 75-year pin.
Paul loved to discuss his interests and memories with families and friends. Even through his final days, he manifested genuine appreciation of all he interacted with, especially his family. In the 1990’s he opened his home for ten years to his daughter and her children, and often commented that those were some of his happiest years.
Paul survived his loving wife, the light of his life, Aline Entress by 8 years. He is survived by three children, Robert Entress of Glastonbury, Lorne Entress and his wife, Barbara Entress of Glastonbury and Robin Entress and her husband, Andrew Garretto of South Windsor. He also leaves a grandson, Christopher Soverns and his wife, Marina, who own what was Paul’s South Windsor home, and a grandson, Nicholas Soverns who recently re-located to Florida.
