His strong and enduring faith in God sustained him throughout his 90 years. Born in Glendale, AZ, in 1935, he was raised by his parents, Anastacio and Amelia Chavez, alongside his siblings, Robert and Terry.
Following high school, Tony enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served overseas in Tripoli. Upon his return, he became the patriarch of the family after the passing of his father, embracing the responsibility of providing for his loved ones at a young age. He married the love of his life, Henrietta Mesa, and together they raised Anthony Jr., Lorraine, Danny, Maryanne, and Mark. They also welcomed his sister, Terry, into their home at age 13 following the passing of his mother.
A devoted member of the Catholic Church, Tony cherished his extensive network of family and friends, whom he spoke of with great pride throughout his life. He is survived by his wife, Henrietta; his children, Anthony Jr. (Christina), Danny, and Lorraine (Ben); 10 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind numerous compadres, uncles, aunts, cousins, and their children, having served as a beloved Nino to many.
Tony was a man who loved God, his family, and his community. He was a dedicated worker and a talented businessman who took great joy in cooking for large gatherings and sharing his hospitality. An enthusiast of the outdoors, he was known for offering Godly wisdom and advice. While he could be intimidating in his toughness, he always revealed a deep, genuine love and care for those around him.
We thank God for the gift of a man we could learn from and rely upon. We also extend our gratitude to the family and friends who have supported us throughout this journey.
Tony will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
Rest in peace, our love. We will see you again in Paradise.
