Arnold Marvin Barfuss
December 9, 1947 – May 9, 2018
Arnold (“Arnie”) M. Barfuss, was born on December 9, 1947 and was the eldest son of Marvin & Ardella Barfuss.
Arnold served a distinguished career (24+ years) in the U.S. Air Force, achieving the rank of Master Sergeant. He served overseas tours of duty in Vietnam, Thailand, and Spain. He also served tours of duty at Luke AFB & Davis-Monthan AFB (Arizona), and Langley AFB (Virginia). Arnold’s extensive military decorations included:
* Air Force Commendation (1 oak leaf cluster) * Air Force Outstanding Unit Award (2 oak leaf clusters) * Air Force Good Conduct Medal (6 oak leaf clusters) * National Defense Service Medal (1 bronze star) * Vietnam Service Medal (3 bronze stars) * Air Force Overseas Short Tour Ribbon (1 oak leaf cluster) * Air Force Overseas Long Tour Ribbon * Air Force Longevity Service Award (5 oak leaf clusters) * NCO Professional Military Education Graduate Ribbon * Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon * Air Force Training Ribbon * Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal
Arnold was also a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served members of the Peoria Arizona Stake as the Stake Employment Specialist for many years. He also served as the Executive Secretary for the Bishop of the Sun Valley Ward. His devoted service included ministering to fellow ward members each month as a home teacher.
Arnold’s family was first and foremost in his life. He also loved good food, frequently dining with his friends and the “Rat Pack” Lunch Crew. He also enjoyed riding his motorcycle and flirting. Arnold was preceded in death by his wife; Maria Candelas. His children (family members) are: Noosala (David), Sherri (Brian) and Melodi (Chente). Arnold’s posterity also includes 9 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. His surviving siblings (family members) include: Michael (Jane), Rex (Jo), Hal (Mary), Dianne (Rod), Anita (Louis) and Mark (Lisa).
Family and friends are invited to a viewing on May 14, 2018 from 9:30 – 10:30 A.M. at 12951 N. 83rd Ave, Peoria, Arizona 85381 (83rd Ave & Sweetwater). The funeral will be held immediately after the viewing, from 11:00 A.M. – 12:00 P.M. at the same location. Burial will follow at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona beginning at 1:00 P.M. where Arnold will receive full military honors for his devoted & distinguished service to his country.
