Betty was born in Phoenix, Arizona on August 28, 1944 to parents Jesse and Jesus Arevalo, in addition to her four sisters and two brothers—in a happy and loving Mexican-American household, steeped in proud heritage and family traditions that have carried on through many generations.
Betty met the love of her life, John Zolyniak, on a blind date arranged by friends. In their courtship they found a shared love of music and dancing, spending dates enjoying live polka music. A short time after on August 28, 1962, young John and Betty were married in Glendale, Arizona. Their loving marriage stood the test of time, spanning fifty-nine years.
Betty and John moved from Phoenix to Tempe in 1978 for both to work and raise their family. They were proud parents of four children, Anna, Sharon, Christina, and Ted, and delighted in being grandparents of eight, and great-grandparents of five.
John worked in manufacturing management with a career spanning fifty years, while Betty sustained a long and successful career in the insurance industry. She also served as a volunteer for the Catholic Diocese of Arizona, where she taught CCD. They prioritized family above all else—their free-time was devoted to their family of four as they all raised new families of their own.
They moved to Maricopa, Arizona in 2007 in retirement, where Betty enjoyed dancing, traveling, thrifting, and decorating her home, hosting many holidays and family gatherings. Betty and John loved to travel and went on several cruises with friends, exploring Alaska, Canada, Spain, and Germany. They relished their golden years together, offering unending love, support, and guidance to their family, watching their kids and grandkids grow and thrive, celebrating their many milestones and accomplishments.
Betty was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John Zolyniak and siblings Wence “Snooki’” Arevalo, Rosemary “Tita” Ortega and Mona Peña. She is survived by siblings Sylvia Vasquez, Erlinda Espinoza and Johnny Arevalo, children Anna Bohmler, Sharon Seery, Christina Zolyniak, and Ted Zolyniak; son-in-laws Wesley Bohmler, Pat Seery, Eric Hess and daughter-in-law Rachel Corwin; grandchildren Amanda Bohmler, Nicholas Chavez, Vincent Bohmler, Taylor Gallegos, Theodore Bohmler, Caitlin Seery, John Michael Seery and Cristipher Zolyniak; and great-grandchildren LeiLani Bohmler, Mason and Bella Gallegos, and Elvis and Levi Bohmler.
Betty's warmth, kindheartedness, and humor—her love and loyalty to family and friends—and the joyful memories that she created, live on through all that knew and loved her.
Memorial service will be held at Chapel of the Chimes Mortuary, 7924 N 59th Ave, in Glendale, on April 17, 2026. Viewing at 10am, followed by mass. Graveside services will take place at Resthaven Park Cemetery at 12pm.
