Brent is survived by his wife, Roselyne Vutien, his mother Wineva Armer, his sister Linda Galligher, and his brother Brian Armer.
He was preceded in death by his father James Armer.
Brent, affectionately also known as "Doogey", grew up in Phoenix and in his words, was pretty much in "lock-down" by his mother Wineva, because she wanted to protect him after he broke his wrist while doing things a boy would generally like to do at any age (like skateboarding, sports, etc). It didn't help that his older brother Brian and older sister Linda would sometimes get minor injuries themselves doing activities any teen would want to do. Brent related stories of how he would look outside glumly at all his friends while he was dressed in PJ's at 4 PM. His mother was a single parent at the time, because Brent's father tragically passed away from a massive heart attack when Brent was about two years old. Though he was in "lock-down" he still enjoyed doing many things with his friends and family, including camping, fishing, hunting, and spending time in the great outdoors. After his mother met and married his step-father Leonard Harper, Brent gained new freedom to do boy things because his mom was told to "let the boy be a boy."
Brent stubbornly decided to stay in Phoenix despite most of his family moving away to Missouri. He worked briefly at the Sky Harbor airport during his teen years, at a cafe serving food and beverages, and then moved to a small company called AZ Satellite. He then went to TCI Cable of Scottsdale in 1994, where he met his best friend Brent Wyatt. TCI cable became Cox, and after his job at Cox, he began working for Century Link as a telecommunications technician until he retired in May 2021. Those of us who knew Brent knew him to be a fiercely loyal friend to those he loved, so it was no surprise that he wanted to stay at Century Link until he retired. Being a technician was not always what he dreamed of doing. In fact, he wanted to take college classes to further his dreams of a career in hotel management. However, the adversity of working at a job that at times was very physically and mentally demanding while trying to make ends meet was not conducive for him to continue with college. He still channeled his energies into many things during this time, including riding his motorcycle and going on road trips with his friends, building up his gun collection, and panning for gold. Because his best friend Brent and he had the same name, their friends settled on our Brent being "Doogey", given his likeness to "Doogie Howser". Doogey was never above a passing student in his studies in high school or grade school and he wasn't the world's best speller, but he was quite quick to correct you if you spelled "Doogey" incorrectly. Ironically, he once mentioned that the best he ever did in any class was his typing class during the time his wrist was broken in school and could only type with one hand. Go figure.
Doogey stayed in touch with many of his friends throughout his life, and made another best friend with Daisy, his beloved Brittany Spaniel. Mustang Daisy was his baby and he drove out to Riverside to bring her home, and everywhere he went, she would go. The stories he told about their adventures together were heartwarming. He was there when she licked a toad and was out of it. She went with him on several trips cross country to visit friends and family and got huge bugs stuck in her face. Daisy was flattened in the passenger seat while he ramped up his 2000 Mekam Camaro and tore down the streets. He gave her treats because she loved treats, and he gave her puzzles to keep her mind sharp. Doogey had a huge heart and was always attentive to the smallest detail. He proposed to his wife Rose over the Memorial Day weekend in 2018 by waiting for her to find the ring on the kitchen island. After two days of the ring being unclaimed on the countertop, he had to nudge her into looking at a box that was there for her before going to eat dinner at "The Keg". While he followed her into the kitchen, he picked up her dog Peanut to prevent him from being excited and passing out from his heart condition if he saw Rose get excited over the ring. And yes she was very excited.
In the midst of planning the wedding, Doogey began experiencing back pain early in 2019. When he was diagnosed with advanced lung cancer in late July 2019, it was also apparent that he needed major back surgery to prevent being paralyzed. All of us were heartbroken. It was unclear then if the wedding would proceed as planned. Despite this, he was bound and determined to make his own wedding. With all our friends and family's support he kept his promise. He was determined to stay positive and strong and courageous and he continued to keep this promise. He continued telling stories and cracking jokes. He watched his favorite TV shows such as the Big Bang Theory, but especially enjoyed cheering on his Dallas Cowboys. He's definitely converted a few of us to cheer them on this season.
We lost a gentle and kind soul. He touched all our lives and gave us each a bit of his life and light. He will always be loved and have a special place in our hearts.
Family and friends are invited to a viewing being held on Saturday, October 2, 2021 at 8 AM followed by funeral service at 9 AM at West Resthaven Funeral Home, 6450 West Northern Avenue, Glendale, Arizona. Brent will be laid to rest at Resthaven Park Cemetery.
