He was born in Walters, OK on January 22, 1931 to Dollie M. (Bearden) Rhodes and Luther E. Rhodes. He attended school in Frederick, OK.
He worked as a truck driver from the age of 16 until 1957 when he moved to Phoenix, AZ. In Phoenix he entered into a partnership with his cousin Connie Freeman. Together they owned Freeman and Rhodes TV Sales and Service at 2102 W. Camelback Rd, Phoenix. The business was successful for 40 years until their retirement in 1997.
Carl married Judith Clem of Glendale, AZ on September 28, 1959. In 1966 they welcomed daughter April into the world. In 1973 the family moved to Glendale into the house Carl had built for them.
Carl enjoyed coin and stamp collecting, fishing, and music. He loved animals and his volunteer work at the YWCA. The family attended the Church of Christ, first in Phoenix then later on Union Hills. Harkening back to his truck driving days he loved to take Judy and April on road trips throughout the US, Canada, and Mexico.
Carl was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Harold, Ray, Freddie and sisters Doris and Loretta. He is survived by his wife Judy; daughter April and her husband Michael Sanchez and step grandson Nick Sanchez; sister Evelyn Maahs (Bob) brother Leroy (Nancy); and brother-in-law William C "Bill" Clem as well as many nieces and nephews. Carl was a faithful family man who will be missed by all who knew him.
Services will be held August 4, 2018 at Chapel of the Chimes, Glendale, AZ. Visitation at 10 am, Funeral service at 11am followed by internment at Resthaven Cemetery.
