I am very sorry to hear about Carmen's passing.  Paradise Valley has lost an excellent teacher, and her family and friends have lost a wonderful and kind person.

Carmen was a delightful, wonderful friend during our grade school and high school years. I remember practicing walking with our first pair of high heels for eighth grade graduation. She was going to lead the entire class down the aisle at St. Mary's Basilica and wanted to make sure she did it with grace. That was Carmen: a very grace-filled, loving leader. My life is richer for having been one of her many friends.

Losing a mom is like losing a piece of yourself. I always appreciated Carmen and thought her to be both charming and beautiful - on the inside and out. May the Good Lord hold you close during this painful time.

I met Carmen the first week I was at PVCC back in November of 1996 and we soon became such good friends!!  Today, I found a few notes that I kept from Carmen (thank you card, baby congrats, etc).  Seeing her handwriting brings back even more memories of a very dear friend I miss so very much.  Love you always -- Sheri

Dear Renee,

Your mom was my Spanish 101 and 102 teacher over 14 years ago.  I was a mom, returning to college after many years away.  I flunked French in high school, so I thought I would try a different language - Spanish. Your mom was instrumental in helping me find my path - back to teaching - by demonstrating her JOY of being a teacher every single day.  She was passionate and warm to every one in the room.  I am sure there are MANY more students who would also tell you this!!!!  She was an amazingly talented teacher!  God bless you and your family through this time.

It is with great sadness that I write these words in honor of your beloved mom and my childhood friend. Your mom was one of the first friends I made in 5th grade at St. Mary's Elementary.  I did not speak a word of English and your mom showed a great deal of care and kindness as she introduced me to the American culture. I spent many days at her house enjoying the Abuelo's (your great-grandfather) paella and the tremendous love and energy that filled their home. So many years have passed since we have seen Carmen and her family.  Our families were friends and we go back many, many years.  Years of being a part of each others families and years of watching our family members dwindle.  Wegrew up together, took flamenco dancing lessons together, traveled to Mexico City together, and went to school together.   We were stunned and saddened to hear of her passing---a life ended too soon.  While viewing the viedeo, it became apparent that she loved you all so very much; you could see the happiness in her face. Carmen was a lady with real class. She took great interest in everyone she met and will be missed dearly.
